Frank & Lively hosts BFI & Film London backed event

Research from J. Walter Thompson and the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media shows that 74% of Millennials make a point of watching films and TV shows that have complex female characters. However, filmmakers are still leaving a lot to be desired. The research further reports that 85% of women said the media is blind to how much they stereotype women.

How do we cross this divide? In this session, we discuss the importance of developing believable female characters and crafting a story with staying power. We share storytelling advice from this year’s most celebrated filmmakers.

Our panel includes:

Andee Ryder: Producer of BAFTA nominated film of MCQUEEN
Deborah Joan Haywood: Writer/Director of PIN CUSHION
Mahshad Afshar: Writer/Director of WOMEN ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CAMERA
Nadia Oliva: Talent Development, Film London

This event will be hosted by Marcie MacLellan, founder of Frank & Lively and producer of BAFTA nominated film, APOSTASY.

We will share film clips and encourage open discussion about the scripting, casting and directing process in an inspiring session that leaves attendees with tangible tips and techniques to transform the stories they tell to truly engage their female audience.

With support from SheSaysUK, BFI Network and Film London, this event serves as a fundraiser for Pegah Gashtasbi’s new short, UNDER THE MOON. Snacks and drink to be provided. Sign up here
