Marcie MacLellan joins as Executive Producer for Sam + Jake

Frank & Lively founder, Marcie MacLellan, signs on as Executive Producer for a new ground-breaking short by writer/director Abel Rubinstein, SAM + JAKE.  The subject matter of this film deals with the LGBT community; one which is underrepresented in film.

Jake is an overly-confident gay 16-year-old. His dating pool is limited to the old men on Grindr; until now. A popular “straight” boy, Sam, has asked Jake to meet up. They quickly form a bond as they explore the woods. For the first time, Jake gets a taste of a “normal” romantic relationship. The question is, will it last? Abel Rubinstein is a writer director. His previous works include, Dungarees (Roundhouse), Wink (BBC) and Fuck The Boxes. Abel started his career through the BFI film academy. He was accepted onto the scheme SHORTFLIX run by Creative England and Sky Arts where he developed his script Fuck The Boxes. Once completed, his debut short screened at Oscar qualifying LIFF, Oscar qualifying Athen’s Film + Video, BAFTA qualifying LSFF – the film went on a National Tour screening all over the UK. It won a New Shoots Spring award and screened all over the world at many more festivals, Abel was mentioned in a VICE Article named “Top Ten Filmmakers To Watch Out for at BFI Future Film Festival”. Abel went on to make Dungarees, commissioned by the Roundhouse with mentoring support from Caragh Davison at BFI Network. Dungarees has since been accepted into BFI LONDON FILM FESTIVAL, EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, Nominated for best UK Short at IRIS PRIZE, BFI FLARE, Frameline, Oberhausen Short Film Festival, Outfest, Inside Out with many more soon to be announced. Abel was then commissioned by the ICA to make his fun 3-minute short film, Wink, for the scheme BBC NEW CREATIVES. It premiered at the ICA, then launched on BBC iPlayer and BBC’s YouTube channel.
